The trip to
Bali

|
There
are no direct flights
or
charter flights
to Bali
from the Netherlands. There are some other options but
only with stopover:
Malaysia Airlines (via Kuala
Lumpur),
Singapore Airlines (via Singapore),
Cathay Pacific (via Hongkong),
KLM (with
stopover
in Kuala
Lumpur
or Singapore) olso
Garuda Indonesia
flies
from Amsterdam
to
Bali
again. Every other country has different
possibillities for a flight to Bali.
In the event that you are flying to Bali from an Asiatic country you
may want to look for one of the local airlines to Bali. The price of
a ticket is bound by the season you are travelling in. As usual the
prices of a ticket are lower “out of season”. June, July, August and
December are what you call “High Season”. In other words: more
expensive.
Ticket
can be bought through the regular channels: directly via internet
with the Airline of your choice, via your travel agency or by phone
or internet with ticket agencies as advertised on billboards or in
the nationwide media. In
order to avoid annoying surprises you should always check if the
price you pay for the ticket does include all local and foreign
taxes, i.e. airport taxes.
Depending on the airline you are flying with a typical flight will
take approx. 16 hours, the longest stretch being from Amsterdam
Schiphol Airport to your transfer point (12 hours). Your transfer
time averages between 2 and 3 hours. 16 Hours
is a long stretch. Try to get used to the different time zones. Most
people are too excited to get a good rest and can´t sleep. Reading
up on your destination is a good pastime. Also, if there is a
possibility, try to stretch your legs by walking (but, please do not
wander off too far and/or leave the plane).
Once you passed customs you may want to exchange some of money for
the local currency at one of the many money exchange offices. There
are ATM´s (automated teller machines) where you can “pin” money as
well. Check with your
bank to make sure that you will be able to use your card abroad.
ATM´s are usually found in most towns/cities.
Just outside the airport doors you will find taxi drivers to drive
you to your hotel or apartments. Watch for your name on the signs
that these drivers hold in their hands. |

Things for you to take care of:
|
-
An Entry-Visa can be purchased at the airport for ± US Dollars
25 per person. However, if you intend to stay longer than 30
days you must
apply for a visa prior
to departure at the Indonesian Embassy. See
Ambassy of Indonesia.
-
Check with your family doctor of local
health services if you need any vaccinations (i.e. against
typhoid and/or hepatitis B. You are most likely that you take
malaria pills. Do this well in advance and follow the
instructions to the point in order to avoid nasty surprises.
-
When leaving Indonesia you will be required to pay Rph. 150.000 (approx. Euro 14) in airport taxes. This amount can change from day to day without prior notice.

Enjoying your trip to Bali from the very beginning.
As soon as you start planning your trip you look what a country like
Indonesia has on offer for you. You buy a travel guide or borrow one
at your local library. This country and Bali in particular has so
much to offer. We have tried to give you a preview of the
possibilities. In case that you can thing of other things to do, by
all means do write your ideas down and hand them over to your
contact in order for him/her to take your wishes in consideration.
You may want to discus these ideas with your driver(s) when you have
arrived on Bali. Please do pay special attention to and
try to understand the local customs of this country. Bali is very
different from Java because of their different religions. This
difference resulted in each of the islands having their own
cultures. Familiarizing yourself with the local
traditions and culture gives you a better understanding of the
people immediately upon arrival on the island and gives you an
advantage. The more you know about the island of your dreams the
more you will enjoy your stay here. If you have a chance,
it does not hurt to learn a few words of the official Indonesian
language (Bahasa Indonesia) or even better, Balinese. Learn how to
count. The locals will love this and admire you. |
